Combined authority issue isn’t going away, says deputy leader of Lichfield District Council

The issue of combined authorities isn’t going away, councillors have been told.

Lichfield District Council is currently in discussions with members of a proposed West Midlands group as well as representatives from Staffordshire.

No decision has yet been made on which area the local authority will join, but deputy leader Cllr Ian Pritchard warned that councillors couldn’t bury their heads in the sand.

“There has been a lot of scepticism about combined authorities,” he said. “But it isn’t going away.

“This is our Government’s intention so we need to make sure we’re gaining knowledge so members of the council know what we’re talking about when it comes time to choose.”
