Lichfield owner’s bill for failing to clean up after his dog in park

A Lichfield man has been hit in the pocket for a second time after failing to clean up after his dog.

Peter Forrester, of Richmond Drive, pleaded guilty to two offences at Stafford Magistrates’ Court on July 29.

The court heard how Lichfield District Council officers saw the 68-year-old failing to scoop his dog’s poop in Darnford Park in January. He then failed to give his details when asked – an offence under the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005.

It was the second time Forrester has been prosecuted for an offence in the same park.

On this occasion he was fined £230, ordered to pay court costs of £525, and a victim surcharge of £23 – a total penalty of £778.

Councillor Colin Greatorex said: “We know that keeping our streets and green spaces free of litter and dogs’ mess is extremely important to our residents and visitors.

“This case should remind all dog walkers that failing to clean up after your dog is an offence, and one that we, and the courts, take very seriously.”
