Shenstone Pathfinder fell to a 2-1 defeat on the opening day to pre-season promotion favourites AFC Ludlow.
The scoreline wasn’t a fair reflection of the action though, with Paths having the better of the play for long periods.
It was Shenstone who opened the scoring after 19 minutes when Nicholls’ cross was headed into the roof of the net by Josh Haston.
A lively encounter saw Ludlow have their best spell of the first half just before the break – and they made it count with two goals in ten minutes.
The first was a controversial one as a shot was deflected goalwards by a forward who appeared to be in an offside postition. The second saw a loose ball in the box tucked home from a tight angle.
Shenstone felt aggrieved to go in behind at the turnaround and they came out fired up for the second period, dominating the action but unable to find a way through as Finkle, Haston, Caddy and Leonard all squandered chances.
Paths will look to bounce back when they travel to Bartestree this Saturday (August 15).
