The Joe Richards fruit and veg shop in Lichfield

A buyer is being sought for a Lichfield fruit and veg store in Lichfield.

Joe Richards had 11 shops across the Midlands, including one on Bore Street.

The entrepreneur died in July and now Cranfield Business Recovery has been appointed as administrative receivers for the company.

Spokesman Tony Mitchell said: “The business had developed a high-quality reputation and there has been extensive goodwill shown from suppliers and customers in the weeks after Mr Richards’ death.

“We will be working to achieve a disposal of the business and wish to talk to any interested party about them acquiring one or more of the stores.”

Interesting. If this business is to close does this mean that there will be more fresh fruit and veg being sold on Market Square where it should be and encourage people to support local market traders rather than purchasing the tasteless tripe found in Tesco?

This fruit and veg shop is a real asset to Lichfield. It is open 6 days a week and sells fresh fruit and veg at a very good price! The flowers and plants are always very healthy and thriving too. I will be very disappointed if this shop closes as I usually buy from there most weeks. However wrote the last comment may not be aware that there is not a market everyday in Lichfield!!! If this greengrocers’ were to close the only other alternatives in the city centre would be the supermarkets Tescos and m&s which would be more pricey. Vote with your feet to save the greengrocers’ and find a buyer!!!
