Among the star performers at Nether Stowe School was Ellie Grigg, who gained six A* grades and 3 A grades, and Eleanor Jevon who scooped was awarded 7A grades and an A*.

Talented cyclist Sophie Capewell rode off with an A** in Further Maths and 6 A* grades.

“I am really happy with these results because I had to juggle my school work and the demands of being on the British team,” said Sophie, who has just competed in the European Championships.

Head of year, Martin Dolman, said: “I am very pleased with the overall performance of the year group. As usual we have a number of students who did exceedingly well getting a string of A* and A grades.

“With the GCSE exams getting ever harder, this is a real achievement.”

Almost 60% of Nether Stowe students gained a C or above in English and Maths.

Head teacher Ruth Poppleton said: “At a time of great change and a move to students taking more GCSE courses, the students have performed very well.

“As a year group they worked really hard, especially towards the end of their time with us, and were assiduous in attending revision classes.

“Each one of these results is a triumph for the individual student, and this day is for them to celebrate their achievement with their family and friends.

“Many of them will be coming back to us to join the sixth form, but we wish all of them well, whatever their chosen career path.”
