A UKIP county councillor says the wording of the EU referendum question will have little impact on how locals will vote.
But the Electoral Commission has called for changes to the proposed question to avoid any bias.
The original question was “should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union?” – but the watchdog wants the words “or leave the European Union?” added.
But Cllr Jeff Sheriff, who has represented Burntwood South on Staffordshire County Council since 2013, said the wording was unlikely to have any meaningful impact.
“I don’t think members of the public are really too bothered by words such as leave or remain that the Electoral Commission have come up with.”
