Burntwood Rugby Club's home at The Sportsway

With no league or merit table fixtures for Burntwood last weekend, the focus turned to a veterans clash with Barton-under-Needwood on Friday as part of celebrations to mark club president Paul Rogers’ 50th birthday.

Many former faces made a welcome return to The Sportsway and enjoyed the post-match catch-up despite a narrow defeat.

On Saturday afternoon a Burntwood XV entertained Burton A XV and both sides played their part in a very competitive and open game before the hosts went down 32-23.

The following day the colts travelled to Telford for a North Mids Colts League fixture and returned victors by 52-6.

This Saturday (October 10) Burntwood return to league action with a local derby against Cannock at The Sportsway, kick-off 3pm. It is the first time that the sides have faced each other in a league game – and there is added spice as the visitors currently top the table having begun the season with three wins out of three fixtures.

The 2nds are also at home with Handsworth 2nds the visitors for a merit table game.

On Sunday the colts are also in league action with a home fixture against Stafford, kick off 2pm.
