Staffordshire County Council said there would be a 10p increase for 16 to 19-year-olds from April 1. but Cllr Mark Deaville insisted the scheme would still prove popular.

“The Your Staffordshire Card has proved to be a huge success since its launch, with almost a third of the county’s teenagers now signed up to the scheme,” he said.

“It’s a bit like a railcard, and because it can be used at any time of the day on bus journeys it gives young people a real cost effective way of getting to either school, college, training, work or out and about with friends.”

The Your Staffordshire Card – which is subsidised by the county council – was introduced in April 2011 and has almost 30,000 young people signed up
