Wirksworth Community Theatre is this month staging an ambitious production in its own town, using scripts and costumes loaned by Lichfield Mysteries Community Arts.

The group will perform a series of plays, titled Heaven, Hell and Everything Else, encompassing the first part of the Lichfield Mystery Cycle.

In Lichfield the group will perform Noah’s Flood.

They will join several local groups performing the Lichfield Mystery Plays on the May Day Bank Holiday weekend – May 1 and 2 – in Market Square and in Wade Street Church.

The free event also includes photography and art exhibitions at the Lichfield Garrick, Lichfield Library and the cathedral, as well as performances by poetry groups, a puppet theatre and Lichfield Lighthouse Company of shanty singers.

There will also be a storytelling event at St Mary’s Church and the George IV pub.
