Veecare Ltd has applied for planning permission to to change Loughton Court, on Trent Valley Road, into three properties.

The 24-bed facility has suffered from “a prolonged period of under-occupancy” according to a statement supporting the formal planning application.

It adds: “Despite attempts to dispose of the business as a going concern, the applicants have now resolved to close the care home.

“It is acknowledged that this proposal will result in the loss of an existing care home facility, and to this end the applicant has been marketing the premises for sale as a going concern since April 2015.

“Despite a steady flow of interest, along with a price reduction in October and a further reduction in December, no offers have been received. Feedback from potential purchasers said that the home is too small with limited room for expansion.”

The planning statement also said that the home had been run by agency staff for the past two years due to difficulties in finding a new manager and recruiting staff.

The company added that wage increases combined with no rise in social services fees meant that closure was the only option.

Full details of the proposal can be seen on Lichfield District Council’s planning website.
