Part of a Lichfield pavement was lifted after a fault with an underground cable.
Firefighters were called to Burton Road in Streethay at around midnight after reports of two loud bangs and smoke coming from the ground below a telegraph pole.
A utility cover on the pavement had been lifted up during the incident.
Western Power Distribution were also on the scene after earlier power cuts had left some homes without electricity for three hours.
A spokesperson for the company said: “It sounds very much like an underground cable fault.”
