The home side took the lead in the ninth minute when a corner was cleared only as far as Peter Till who struck a first time volley past an unsighted Rob Peet.

Matt Wood extended the home side’s lead with a thunderous left foot shot which flew past Peet into the top corner.

Chasetown extended their lead with a superb team goal. Till crossed for striker Mitch Piggon who unselfishly headed for skipper James Dance who netted from a tight angle.

The Scholars went in for the kill and Ryan Walker barged over Josh Ruff when the winger surged into the box. Piggon took responsibility for the penalty and despatched it low to Peet’s left.

Gresley almost immediately reduced the arrears with an effort from Pearson Mwanyongo from just inside the penalty area.

Five minutes from time the visitors sowed a seed of doubt in the home defence as Walker netted from a right wing corner.

Substitute Pierce Kiembi was felled for a second Chasetown penalty and Jack Langston converted against his former club.
