Mitch Piggon breaks Chasetown scoring duck as Scholars pick up a point at Stocksbridge Park Steels

Mitch Piggon became the first player to score for Chasetown at Stocksbridge at the Scholars’ fifth time of asking.

Stocksbridge took the lead after 10 minutes. An inswinging corner was missed by everyone and Liam McFadyen stabbed home unmarked at the far post.

Chasetown had their first shot of the game on the half hour with a Jack Langston volley which was beaten away by David Reay.

The Scholars ended the half on top and on the stroke of half time Mitch Piggon saw his shot cleared off the line.

In the 65th minute, Ryan Wynter teed up Langston whose first time shot flashed over the bar.

Chasetown finally levelled in the 80th minute when Steels messed up a clearance and Piggon netted from outside the area – the first time The Scholars have ever scored at Stocksbridge’s ground.

But Chasetown finished the game with ten men as Rhys Thompson saw red for two bookable offences.
