Chasetown FC suffer defeat on the road at Newcastle Town

Chasetown FC were made to pay the price for some defensive hesitancy as they were beaten on the road at Newcastle Town.

Despite a promising start from the Scholars, the hosts took the lead against the run of play as Joe Thomas teed up Lee Cropper and he fired past Curtis Pond.

But Chasetown were immediately level with Jack Langston firing beyond Dave Parton.

The Scholars thought they had escaped going behind again as Newcastle struck the post and crossbar within a matter of seconds, but it was to be third time lucky as James Askey made it 2-1.

Early in the second half, Rhys Thompson conceded a penalty and Cropper sent Pond the wrong way from the spot to extend Newcastle’s advantage.

Matt Wood and Ryan Wynter went close to reducing the deficit but the hosts stood firm to claim all three points.
