Lichfield City FC through in the JW Hunt Cup after victory at Paget Rangers

Lichfield City FC eased through to the next stage of the JW Hunt Cup with a win at Paget Rangers.

Dave Langston’s men were desperate to put the disappointment of their weekend defeat against Cadbury Athletic behind them, and they came out of the traps quickly with Daniel Griffiths firing just over in the opening stages.

City were clearly keen to banish memories of the weekend quickly and they soon opened the scoring when Joe Clarke volleyed home from Robert Tomlinson’s delivery.

But Paget showed they possessed a threat with a strike just over the top.

And the home side went one better as they levelled when Mark Bellingham fired home just after the half-hour mark.

Lichfield restored their lead before the break though as Daniel Griffiths produced a fine finish after good work from Dan Thurstance.

Richard Deavall should have extended his side’s advantage early in the second period but could only send his header over the top, while Clarke fluffed a chance to double his tally after failing to get a good enough contact on a well-delivered free-kick.

City eventually sealed the tie in the dying stages as Griffiths bamboozled a defender before slotting home.
