A new advertising campaign is urging MPs to make one final stand against HS2.
Groups including the the HS2 Action Alliance, the Taxpayers’ Alliance, Stop HS2, Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace have launched the ‘Why can’t they see sense on HS2?’ drive in a bid to target MPs who will have the final say on the HS2 Phase 1 Hybrid Bill.
The controversial high speed rail line will cut through parts of Lichfield and the surrounding villages.
The new advert is calling on people to email their MPs to ensure they do not “waste our money on the biggest white elephant”.
Joe Rukin, Stop HS2 campaign manager, said: “From start to finish, HS2 has been a vanity project, driven by vested interests seeking to rake in billions of taxpayers pounds building it, and politicians so blinded by the idea of leaving a legacy that they point blank refuse to accept any of the facts concerning this white elephant.
“Every argument supporting HS2 has simply been made up to make it seem like it is a good idea, while the reality is there have always been better ways of delivering capacity and economic benefits to more people more quickly for less money, which would be kinder to the environment and cost less to run.
“There is still time for Parliament to see sense and cancel this enormous boondoggle.”
