New £475,000 project to improve traffic in Barton-under-Needwood

A new £475,000 project will aim to improve traffic in Barton-under-Needwood.

Staffordshire County Council will discuss proposals with local businesses, schools and councillors after the money was made available from developers building new homes on Efflinch Lane and Barton Marina.

However, proposals to create a new parking area and coach drop-off point at John Taylor High School have been dropped.

County councillor Mark Deaville said: “Barton-under-Needwood is a busy village and we want to use this developer funding to its best effect.

“We’re confident that together we can draw up a suitable scheme to help improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in the village.

“We do of course need to be realistic about what we can achieve within this budget and different people will have different priorities. Unfortunately the scheme at John Taylor High School was not viable with the funding we had and so we must now move forward with new proposals.

“We look forward to starting discussions with the community to shape a scheme which works for everyone.”
