Areas invited to take part in the Staffordshire Best Kept Village competition

People living in Lichfield and Burntwood are being urged to get their gardening gloves on for the Best Kept Village Competition.

The contest, which has run since 1956, saw 55 entries last year and organisers are hoping for more this time round.

Villages have until February 20 to register their intention to take part in he competition.

John Perry MBE, Chairman of the Best Kept Village working group said: “Last year’s area and county winners will be working hard to retain their titles and there will be other villages equally determined to be winners this year.”

Villages will be visited in May and then again in June by different teams of judges. The best large and small villages will then be judged again in July, before the final results are announced in August.

For more details about entering, contact the Community Council of Staffordshire on 01785 242525 or email communitycouncil@staffs.org.uk.
