Seb Fisher and Harvey Hughes, both 11, and ten-year-old Toby Dennis all completed four trials to make the final 20-strong squad, despite being a number of years below the age limit.

They start their careers at county level with matches against Derbyshire and Shropshire and will then play against other counties across the Midlands in the regional cup later in the year.

Seb and Harvey attend Lichfield Cathedral School and Toby is a pupil at Christchurch Primary School. The trio are all members of the Lichfield Hockey Club Under 12 team and the South East Staffs District squad, while Seb and Toby also played in the Lichfield under 10 team who are the reigning Staffordshire Champions.

Dave Willenbruch, Chair of Lichfield Hockey Club said: “I’m delighted for the boys who worked hard at the trials.

“We’ve again had lots of success at all junior level this year. Indeed, the club has an excellent track record of producing hockey players for club, county and country.

“We have a thriving Sunday morning junior session attracting hundreds of children every week which Seb, Harvey and Toby attend. Anyone is welcome.”

Lichfield Hockey Club is based at Eastern Avenue, Lichfield and the Sunday morning junior sessions are as follows at 9am for under 11s and 10am for over 11s.
