Daniel Griffiths hat-trick helps Lichfield City FC climb into the top four

Lichfield City FC jumped into the top four after a Daniel Griffiths hat-trick helped secure a win over Pershore Town.

Other rivals in the Midland Football League Division One still have games in hand, but boss Dave Langston will still be pleased to see his side have the points on the board.

Nick Harris had the best of the opening chances for City, firing over after a strong burst into the box.

Griffiths showed signs of what was to come as he saw a glancing header turned away.

The breakthrough eventually came just after the half-hour as Griffiths netted his first of the afternoon – and sparked a five minute goal rush that saw him net a second, while Jack Jones also found the target to give Lichfield a three-goal lead before half-time.

The hat-trick was secured three minutes after the break as Griffiths rattled home left-footed.

Although the points were long gone, Pershore continued to plug away and saw a couple of half-chances spurned.

Jones missed a chance to add a fifth for Lichfield late on, before the hosts finally bagged a consolation through Will Stallard.
