Two festivals join forces to create 250-strong choir in Lichfield

Two city festivals are teaming up to create a 250-strong choir.

The Lichfield Festival and the Lichfield Arts Fuse Festival is hoping to create the City Sing partnership in time for a performance in July.

Singers are being invited to join choirs from across the region and a visiting group from Estonia at a series of workshops ahead of the big performance.

Jennifer Mears, executive director for the Lichfield Festival, said: “With the two festivals running over the same weekend, we have been working closely to ensure there is something for everyone.

“City Sing gives everyone a chance to enjoy participating in the arts without any need for prior experience. It is just one of a series of events and projects running over the weekend that the whole family can enjoy.”

The project will also see participants working alongside Birmingham-based choir leaders Vocal Point.

Natasha Hettihewa-Young, co-director of the Lichfield Arts Fuse Festival, added: “The great thing about this partnership is that it is based on supporting the community, celebrating local talent and providing new opportunities to engage with the arts.”
