Keeper James Lawson’s penalty save ensures Lichfield City FC earn a point against Atherstone

Lichfield City FC shared the spoils after an entertaining draw with Atherstone.

Dave Langston’s men were quick out of the blocks with Ben Lund firing over int he opening minute.

The City striker was in a menacing mood and tested the Adders keeper again with a volley that was well turned over.

But the breakthrough came from the penalty spot when Lund was felled, allowing Richard Deavall to smash the ball down the middle and give Lichfield the lead.

Atherstone showed they carried their own attacking threat though and levelled when Aden Moore’s drive crept in at the far post.

And the hosts thought they’d completely turned the game when the striker skipped past Lichfield’s keeper, but Dan McLeod produced a last gasp tackle to keep the scores level.

The second half again saw City start brightly with Oliver Hayward firing wide from distance.

But it was Atherstone who had a golden chance to win the game after a foul saw them awarded a penalty. Lichfield keeper James Lawson had other ideas though as he produced a fine save to keep his side on level terms.
