A Burntwood cricket club has drawn up plans to expand its facilities.

Additional dressing rooms and a larger clubhouse are being proposed at Burntwood St Matthews Cricket Club.

The club – which was founded in 1897 – currently operates two senior teams, a ladies team and three junior sides.

A statement supporting the planning application for the new buildings said: “There are also two junior football teams and one senior team that use the facilities.

“The present club facilities were constructed many years ago as part of a day unit on the now closed hospital site, and adapted for current use when the hospital closed.

“The current facilities do not provide appropriate accommodation for present needs and inhibit further development.”

The new proposals would see the creation of three changing rooms with access to showers, male, female and disabled toilets, a kitchen and a social area.

The statement added: “These improved facilities would enable the club to retain current players and attract more news ones to the game.

“The facility would also be available as a meeting place for local community groups in what is a relatively isolated area of Burntwood.”

Full details on the proposals can be seen on Lichfield District Council’s planning website.
