Cyclists urged to join charity ride in Lichfield

Lichfield cyclists are being invited to get in the saddle to raise money for charity.

The Ride 4 Health, organised by the Lichfield St Chad Rotary Club, will take place on May 7.

Cyclists will travel from Lichfield to Curborough Sprint Circuit, or just complete laps at the track.

Event organiser Andrew Maw said: “We held the event on a much smaller scale last year to test the route, facilities and infrastructure. Dozens of cyclists of all ages took part to raise £600 for the British Heart Foundation and it was very successful.

“We are confident we can roll it out on a larger scale and are hoping to get over 200 cyclists this year.

“We’ve made a few changes to the structure of the event and have decided not to charge an entry fee. We are asking cyclists to raise as much sponsorship money as they can instead. Entrants can be sponsored for the total distance covered, the number of laps of Curborough, or just a fixed sum of money, and there’s no minimum amount required.”

The route between Lichfield and Curborough will be fully marshalled and use mainly dedicated cycle routes.

Andrew added: “We want this to be an enjoyable fundraising event for the whole family which will enable young children to do their bit for charity as well as encouraging families to get out and get active together. We hope to see lots of people signing up.”

Riders can register on the day from 9am on Lichfield’s Market Square before the ride sets off at 10am. Those only doing laps can register at Curborough Sprint Circuit at 10am. People can also sign up online.
