Free Beacon Park session gives people the chance to learn about Nordic walking

A free session in Lichfield will introduce people to Nordic walking.

The fitness technique sees participants using poles to propel themselves along, with the aim of working upper as well as lower body muscles.

The free intro session will take place between 9.30am and 10.15am on April 11 in Beacon Park. It will be followed by a three-week beginners’ course, run by Jan Shaw.

“I’d encourage everyone to give Nordic walking a go,” Jan said. “It has so many benefits, such as burning up to 46 percent more calories than ordinary walking.

“It’s great for neck, shoulder and back problems and is easy on the knees and joints. It’s also a sociable form of exercise and allows you to enjoy the great outdoors.

“To gain the maximum benefit, it’s really important that you learn the correct technique from a qualified instructor, so do book your place on the taster session to see if it’s for you.”

Walking poles will be provided for the session. For more details visit
