Sub Ben Meakin helps Whittington Vets see off Dunchurch

Whittington Vets deservedly picked up the points after a solid team performance against Dunchurch.

Things didn’t get off to the best start as the visitors opened the scoring against the run of play after a goalmouth scramble.

But just before half-time Whittington equalised after an inswinging corner from Neil Russell was powerfully headed home by Steve Baker.

The visitors once again pulled in front after a well-worked goal but the introduction of Ben Meakin changed the outcome of the game.

Meakin quickly pulled a goal back after a mazy run ended with a fierce shot into the corner of the net.

Once again the pace of the substitute resulted in a cross which Craig Edmondson delicately lobbed over the advancing keeper.

Dunchurch piled on the pressure towards the end of the game but Whittington’s defence held out to claim all three points.
