Search is on for songwriting talent ahead of the 2017 Lichfield Festival of Folk

The search is on to find new folk songwriting talent in Lichfield.

Lichfield Arts will offer cash prizes and the chance to professionally record the winning tracks.

A grand final will take place at the Lichfield Festival of Folk in October.

Stuart Davies, vice-president of Lichfield Arts, said: “This is a really exciting initiative.

“We want to enable existing songwriters to get their songs heard by a wider public but also give new writers of all ages the encouragement to develop their talents and share their work.

“Unlike most competitions we are not looking for professional performances. The songs will be judged on their own merit.

“Lichfield Arts will provide local artists to perform shortlisted songs at the final in October if writers don’t want to perform the songs themselves.”

All finalists will have their songs performed at the Guildhall as part of the Lichfield Festival of Folk on October 15 and will be invited to attend a mentoring workshop led by the olk artist John Tams.

The closing date for online entries is June 16.
