Lichfield City FC suffer sixth straight defeat as they go down to struggling Pelsall Villa

Lichfield City FC suffered their sixth straight defeat as they continue to limp towards the end of the season.

Struggling Pelsall Villa were the latest club to see off the City challenge in the Midland Football League Division One.

It took just nine minutes for the deadlock to be broken as Ryan Wilkins netted for Villa, who still have to win their last game of the season to have any chance of avoiding the drop.

Despite their precarious league position, it was the visitors who continued to make the first half running and doubled their lead when Dan McLeod’s header failed to reach goalkeeper Chris Bull allowing Wilkins to nip in for his second.

Dan Thurstance dragged a shot wide as Lichfield went in search of a goal of their own before the break – but he wasn’t to be denied for long as he finished from close range on 42 minutes.

Luke Chapman tested the Pelsall keeper as City made a much better start to the second half than they had the first, while Thurstance also forced a good save.

Chapman saw another two opportunities go begging as Lichfield looked desperately for a leveller.

But it was another defensive mistake that was to prove costly as Wilkins netted his hat-trick for Pelsall on 67 minutes.

Despite carving out a number of half-chances in the remainder of the game, Lichfield failed to find a way back into the game and now face the prospect of going to runaway champions Bromsgrove Sporting in their final game in a bid to end the season on a high.
