The incident at the MEN Arena has claimed the lives of 22 people after a suspected suicide bomber struck at the end of a concert by Ariana Grande.

Cllr Philip Atkins, leader of Staffordshire County Council, said: “Following the shocking events in Manchester, I have asked that the flags on county council buildings be flown at half-mast as a mark of respect for the victims.

“I understand the Government is working to establish the full details of what is being treated by the police as an appalling terrorist attack.

“All our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and the families of those who have been affected at this most difficult of times.”
