There was heartbreak for Lichfield driver Adam Christodoulou as technical problems denied him a podium finish in the Paul Ricard 1000km.

AMG Team Black Falcon looked to have secured third place when mechanical issues struck in the final 30 minutes of the race.

Christodoulou even had second place in his sights when the car lost power.

“It’s extremely unusual because the AMG is known for its durability and being bullet-proof,” the 28-year-old said. “It’s the first time this has happened.

“It’s just heart-breaking really to come so close to a result, only to see it slip through our fingers. I just feel sorry for the crew and everyone involved because it looked like we were going to be celebrating, but it wasn’t to be.”

“It’s a real shame because we were in third position and things were looking pretty good.”
