The principal of a school in Barton-under-Needwood has said his thoughts are with the family of a pupil who died in a crash.

The 14-year-old – named by friends as Holly Brown – was travelling on a minibus with teachers and fellow John Taylor High School students to an art trip when the vehicle was involved in a collision with a bin lorry on the A38 in Birmingham.

Mike Donoghue, principal of the school, has written to parents after the incident.

He said: “Our thoughts at this very tragic and sad time are with the family, their friends and the pupils and staff involved.

“I am sure that you will join everyone at John Taylor High School in supporting our community in every way you can.”

The principal also said support was being offered to pupils in the aftermath of the incident.

He added: “In school, pupils will be able to talk to their teachers or other staff about their feelings.”
