New homes could be built on the site of a Lichfield gym.
The Lichfield Health and Fitness Club on Rotten Row has been earmarked for redevelopment, with the business moving to new premises.
Developers hope to create 14 two and three bedroom homes on the site.
A statement supporting the planning application said the club needed to relocate in order to compete with purpose built facilities in the city.
“There is insufficient room within the present site to provide a pool and all of the facilities,” the statement said. “As a consequence, Lichfield Health and Fitness Club is losing members due to the competition being able to offer a wider range of facilities.
“The funds generated by the residential redevelopment of the existing site will facilitate the relocation of the club.”
Talks are underway about the potential new homes for the business, although no details have been revealed about the sites being explored.
Full details of the proposals can be seen on Lichfield District Council’s planning website.
