Cllr Natasha Pullen

A Burntwood councillor is stepping down to concentrate on her new role with Staffordshire County Council.

Cllr Natasha Pullen won the Lichfield City North seat from Labour’s Caroline Wood by almost 500 votes last week.

But she has now decided to stand down from her role on Burntwood Town Council where she represented the Conservatives in the Boney Hay and Central ward.

She told LichfieldLive stepping down had not been an easy step to take.

“Having been elected to Staffordshire County Council with a decisive majority, I have had to make the difficult decision to step down from Burntwood Town Council in order to concentrate more fully on my family and council commitments,” she said.

If no by-election is called, the seat will be co-opted – a move which is happening in the Chasetown ward following the resignation of Labour’s Keith Willis-Croft.

There is a cycle/spiral going on here! Tory austerity leads to increased need for Food Banks leads to Tory ladies indulging in charity work for Food Banks leads to Tory lady getting elected to Higher Council leads to more Tory austerity……

More than double the allowances as well, good move.

This is what I absolutly hate about these kinda people. She has one of the lowest attendance records on Burntwood, hardly anything minited, no inputs in the meetings whatsoever.

But here we go, lets quit our poor, unpaid town role and do as little as possible for what?? is it now £3000ish for her Lichfield position, and now £9000ish for Staffs?

Why should any of the taxpayers money from Burntwood folk go towards this woman’s lack of interest. This woman should be ashamed of herself, and the party she represents.

She’s doing God’s work. A fine Christian woman, a real heroin.

I wonder if she will consider stepping down from LDC in view of her extra responsibilities at County level as well. I cannot abide Councillors who sit on multi- councils then complain about workload, hours spent away from the family and the poor allowances paid. I would much rather have them devote appropriate time to one Council and be effective in the role. Maybe the new government could legislate that an individual can sit on one Council only.

I can’t wait to see the rotten turnip the Cons are going to field to replace her in Burntwood. Hell, even if a byelection is called it’ll still get elected as long as it’s wearing a blue rosette and doesn’t have a foreign-sounding name.

When her result was announced, in the same hall a Conservative stood next to me said ‘If she manages to get back for the meetings’. He then walked off, leaving me gobsmacked. No idea what that was about, assume it’s something to do with her poor attendance. She’s not the only Tory who doesn’t attend as much as we would expect.

According to: //lichfieldlive.co.uk/2017/03/15/figures-reveal-councillor-attendance-record-at-lichfield-district-council/ – 73%, not the worst but also not brilliant.

73% overall, but 100% when taking into account authorised absences (which are only granted in exceptional circumstances).

Appalling, that’s what it was.

On councillors being on multiple councils – when I spoke to officers at the open day they said it was helpful when councillors are on multiple councils. The councils work together a lot and so having councillors span them can help things run more smoothly.

I’d much prefer we had a single unitary authority, as across Scotland, rather than local responsibilities being split across three different organisations and the inevitable inefficiency that creates.

The attendance figures relevant to this article relate to Burntwood Town Council meetings, are there any readily available?
