Head Ruth Poppleton said the efforts of staff and students had paid off.

“It has been widely reported in press that A Levels in many subjects have got significantly harder this year, so it is particularly pleasing to see the fabulous achievements made by our students,” she said.

“This success was built on extraordinary hard work and determination from staff and students.

“I would like to pass on my congratulations to all the students and wish them well for the future.”

Among those receiving their results yesterday were Andrew Bradley, who achieved a B and two A grades and is now going to Keele to read mathematics.

He said: “I am overjoyed and surprised with my results and I would like to thank all my teachers who have helped me over my years at Nether Stowe.”

Lewis Byrne said he was “very pleased to gain A and B grades” and is looking forwards to studying law.

Emily Marshall collected grades A and B. She said: “I’ve had fab support from all my subject teachers. They have always pushed me to do better and when things have got tough, reminded me that it will all be worth it in the end.”
