Daniel Griffiths helps Lichfield City FC earn a point against Ilkeston Town

Fans of Lichfield City FC endured another rollercoaster afternoon as they saw their side draw with Ilkeston.

Dave Langston’s men started brightly with Craig Marshall sending an early effort over the bar.

The deadlock was broken on the half-hour mark as Daniel Griffiths lashed a strike home from 20 yards out.

Griffiths was denied a second after attempting to lob the keeper as Lichfield went into the break ahead.

But if City had started in the better in the first half, it was Ilkeston who opened the second period on top, equalising after Jon Clough had turned an effort onto the post only to see Montel Gibson tuck home the loose ball.

Griffiths was again denied by the keeper – but he didn’t have to wait long to double his tally and put Lichfield back in front as, with 72 minutes on the clock, he capitalised on a goalkeeping error. Keeper Curtis Hall gathered but had to drop it as his momentum carried him outside the box and Griffiths was on hand to find the net.

Ilkeston again hit back just seven minutes later though as Gibson smashed home a volley.

It looked like Lichfield had let all their point slip in injury time when Ilkeston netted, only to see the linesman’s flag deny them a last gasp victory.
