Chance for Burntwood residents to have their say on future of the Old Mining College Centre at open day

Residents are being asked for their views on the future of the Old Mining College Centre in Burntwood during an open day later this month.

The building costs Burntwood Town Council £60,000 a year to run and the authority now wants to find ways to help offset the cost.

The council had originally drawn up a plan to spend £55,000 on the centre to create new facilities, including a mini golf course on the lawn and space for movie screenings, before councillors opted to “take a step back” on the proposals, that would also have seen the creation of a gallery of former civic leaders.

An open day will now take place at the Queen Street building from 10am to 2pm on September 30.

A spokesperson said: “Councillors look forward to welcoming residents’ ideas and suggestions on what activities might be offered to the community and how they would like to see the building used in the long term.”
