The event – which kicks off with a 1.2mile swim at Chasewater – has already seen more than 8,000 competitors take up the challenge since it launched in 2015.

Next year’s race will see the finish moved from Shugborough to Stafford town centre.

Race director Lisa Dent said: “There is always tremendous interest in Ironman which has quickly become one of the UK’s biggest and most popular events.

“Athletes can look forward to a truly world-class race experience that always produces great support, so it’s well worth taking the plunge and signing up to race in 2018.”

After the 1.2mile swim at Chasewater, athletes will complete a 56 mile bike ride and a 13.1 mile run.

Staffordshire County Councillor Mark Winnington, Cabinet member for economic growth said: “Ironman is a fantastic race, and interest is always really high.

“We expect that even more people will be interested in the new run course and finish line. Because of this, I’d urge people thinking about taking part to sign up as early as possible to secure their place on the starting line.”

Entries for the race are now being accepted online.
