The opening period was devoid of clear-cut goalscoring chances. The best two came in the closing minutes for the visitors as Ryan Wynter was a whisker wide after the home goalkeeper punched a corner away, before home keeper Michael Duggan nipped in to deny Jake Lovatt.

But the second half saw Spalding make the breakthrough just seven minutes after the restart when Josh Sedgley was adjudged to have fouled Jenk Acar in the box and Gary King converted the resulting penalty.

Chasetown sub Will Whieldon almost levelled the scores with a 25-yard free kick which rustled the side netting.

Spalding doubled their lead and sealed the points in the 79th minute with a Nathan Whitehead volley that wrong-footed goalkeeper Curtis Pond.
