Excercise

A new study shows that almost two thirds of parents in Lichfield worry that their kids don’t get enough exercise.

Research commissioned by David Lloyd Clubs shows that while the average local child gets five hours of physical activity a week outside of PE lessons, the majority of mums and dads (64%) fear it isn’t enough.

However, the study also showed that Lichfield kids are getting more exercise than their parents – who only average four hours 30 minutes each week.

Other findings reveal that the average Lichfield adult spends almost 13-and-a-half hours in front of the TV each week, with a further 14 hours 15 minutes on their phones or tablets.

When families did get out and about together, the study found that physical activities such as walking, swimming or bike riding were high on their agenda.

Andrew Lightbown, general manager at David Lloyd Club Lichfield, said: “Our research shows that exercising together as a family is a growing fitness trend, with the activity now up there with more longstanding ways of spending quality time with loved ones – including going to the cinema, playing board games, cooking and reading – demonstrating just how important a role it has come to play as a means of bonding with one another.”

The research was commissioned to mark the rebranding of the Wall Island fitness centre following a £560,000 refurbishment.
