Lichfield City FC secure unlikely point after coming from three goals down against Cadbury Athletic

Lichfield City FC rescued an unlucky point by coming from three goals down at Cadbury Athletic.

Dave Langston’s men got off to the worst possible start as they conceded a penalty inside the first minute which was cooly slotted home by the hosts.

Keeper Jon Clough pulled off a good save to deny Cadbury a second – but he was only delaying the inevitable as the home side’s lively start soon saw them double their advantage.

A header from former City striker Odane Barnes saw things go from bad to worse as Lichfield went into the half-time interval three goals down.

It looked as though the second half might be a damage limitation operation, but there was more spark about the visitors and they pulled a goal back when Daniel Griffiths tucked away a loose ball.

Lichfield dared to dream of the impossible when Connor Ryan powered a strike beyond the keeper.

The comeback was almost completed when Jake Elcock saw a header go just wide.

But with time running out an unlikely point was secured as Josh Haston netted to seal a spectacular comeback.
