Lichfield policewoman receives international honour

A Lichfield policewomen has been honoured for her work at an awards ceremony in Australia.

PC Nicola Flanagan attended the 2017 International Association of Women Police Awards (IAWP) in Cairns, where she was presented with the award for coaching and mentoring.

It comes following her work leading 21 Staffordshire Police PCSOs.

She said: said: “It was amazing to be in such a beautiful country surrounded by police women from sixty countries around the world. To represent the British Police and my own force filled me with huge pride especially when we paraded through the town.

“The award does not just represent my achievements within the past year but is recognition of the accumulation of the specialist roles I have worked within my service and is an acknowledgement of all that I have attained.”

PC Flanagan has been a member of the force’s road crime team and is Staffordshire Police’s only female accredited VIP defensive driver. She has also a member of the force’s police driver training team.

Staffordshire Police Chief Constable Gareth Morgan said: “We are all immensely proud of Nicola and congratulate her for this award honour and global recognition from the International Association of Women Police Awards.

“With an outstanding police career spanning four decades, Nicola has become an inspirational role model within the force, by demonstrating a unique leadership style and helping our PCSOs realise their potential in making a difference to the communities they serve.
