Lichfield has proved it’s blooming great after winning a top award for its floral displays.
The city received the gold award from the Heart of England in Bloom competition 2017.
Judges hailed a number of locations across the city for their efforts, including Beacon Park, Tudor Row and Swinfen Hall Hotel.
There was also praise for the new floral displays at Lichfield City railway station, which include a planter inspired by the three spires of Lichfield Cathedral.
The green-fingered makeover for the station saw London Midland team up with Lichfield District Council to spruce up the platform area with the help of local businesses and volunteers.
Tawhida Yaacoub, London Midland customer service manager for Cross City North, said: “To win Heart of England in Bloom is an incredible achievement for Lichfield, and it certainly wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support of a number of local businesses and individuals.
“Lichfield City station is a real story of transformation and the next steps are to keep the displays looking beautiful as well as adding new winter plants for the coming months.”
