The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

A new adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic tale is coming to Lichfield as the Garrick hosts The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

Adapted by Nick Lane, the production will stop off in the city as part of a five month UK tour.

His own recovery from a car accident allowed Nick to develop what he says is a personal connection to the story.

He said: “If someone offered me a potion that was guaranteed to make me feel the way I did before the accident, but with the side effect that I’d become ruthless and horrible – would I drink it?”

The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde remains true to the original story but adds in new elements, including the creation of female character Eleanor, who drives Jekyll on in the same way Stevenson’s wife urged her husband to complete the novel.

Nick added: “To be given the opportunity to revisit a book that I love and adapt it for four terrific actors is an absolute gift for me.”

The show is at the Garrick on November 13 and 14. For tickets, visit www.lichfieldgarrick.com or call 01543 412121.
