Lichfield City FC lose defender to long-term injury as they progress in the Staffordshire Senior Cup

Lichfield City FC secured a comfortable Staffordshire Senior Cup win over Brocton – but the victory was overshadowed by a serious injury to Richard Deavall.

The defender suffered a suspected double fracture of his knee in the 4-1 away win.

The injury may have taken the shine off the victory, but it was still an impressive performance from City who found themselves in front after 17 minutes when Daniel Griffiths produced a jinking run before rifling into the bottom corner of the net.

Brocton levelled eight minutes before the interval, but Lichfield were back in front at the start of the second half, before Jordan Evans gave his side breathing space with a third goal.

Sub Deavall lasted just ten minutes before being stretchered off with his injury, but another Lichfield man enjoyed a better evening from the bench as Osiris Robertson stabbed home to make it 4-1 to the visitors.
