Chasetown FC dumped out of the Walsall Senior Cup by Wolverhampton Casuals

Chasetown FC were dumped out of the Walsall Senior Cup by Wolverhampton Casuals.

The hosts belied the league tables with a host of good first half chances. Liam Hughes and Fabian Facey both forced saves from Curtis Pond to give a warning of intent, before Josh Sedgley then cleared off the line.

The Scholars showed they were a threat as Jake Lovatt fired wide from range and Nick Wellecomme was inches wide of the post.

On the stroke of half-time Chad Degville forced home keeper Vitor Pinheiro into a near post save.

But it was Casuals who took the lead at the start of the second half as the visitors went to sleep and Jake Walton gave the West Midlands Premier side the lead.

The lead was doubled with an effort from Hughes from inside the box that beat Pond in the Chasetown goal.

Things could have been worse in the 80th minute when only the crossbar prevented Casuals from adding a third.

Chasetown thought they found a way back with a Jake Lovatt header that was disallowed for offside, before Will Whieldon hit the crossbar with a late free kick, but it was too little too late.

And things were to get even worse for the Scholars as they were reduced to ten men with Tom Urwin seeing red.
