Disappointment as Lichfield City FC fail to make chances pay in Stafford Town defeat

Lichfield City FC suffered a disappointing 1-0 midweek loss against Stafford Town.

Dave Langston’s men started brightly after a run of recent victories, with Ashley Keating and Dan McLeod both being denied by good saves.

Stafford’s first half threat was limited as Lichfield continued to look the most likely to break the deadlock with Jaime Brea-Morena sending a header wide just before the break.

The second half started as the first had with City firmly on the front foot but the breakthrough was proving elusive.

It was also to prove costly as Stafford struck with a sucker puncher when sub Thomas Doody produced a neat finish from inside the box.

Jack Elcock was next to go close for City as they pushed for a leveller, while Lund also sent a strike over the top.

Stafford spurned a glorious chance to put the result out of sight but their strike was sent over the Lichfield bar.

City now have a week to mull over their failure to take anything from the game before they head into a trip to Leicester Road next Tuesday.
