Councillors discuss plan for food festival in Burntwood

Burntwood could get its own food festival in future.

Councillors have been discussing a range of options for new events to promote the area.

Among the items being explored by Burntwood Town Council’s events committee is a food festival.

The idea was originally floated during a meeting last month, but will be discussed further at the next gathering of the committee on November 13.

Labour Councillor Darren Ennis said the idea of a food festival at Burntwood Leisure Centre was still at a very early stage.

“We were asked to come up with some ideas of different events to run around Burntwood and the food festival was one of them.

“At the moment it is still in the very early days of investigation with only initial enquiries carried out.”

Other ideas put forward include an outdoor film screening event.

Crikey, wouldn’t that just blow Burntwood away. Having attended Lichfield’s, it would be fantastic to see a version of it held in Burntwood. Compared to the other events; Wakes is now just a free kiddy day, Xmas is a nice community event, Bloom is just old folks showing their potted plants, and play in parks is another kiddy-event, it would certainly appeal to more people.

It would be nice for the town to host events that are more focused towards adults/youth/ those with disposable income. I’m not complaining about the above events, but we could ask for more. Lichfield now hosts movie nights on that big, opendoor cinema screen. That would look great behind the leisure centre with rows of deck chairs and food stalls dotted around.
