Tamworth MP pleased his Lichfield counterpart Michael Fabricant has “taken his punishment” over war of words

Tamworth’s MP has said he’s pleased his Lichfield counterpart has “taken his punishment” after sparking a war of words between the two areas.

Michael Fabricant had poked fun at the neighbouring town in an interview on national radio.

But his words didn’t go well with Tamworth Borough Council’s leaders who wrote to him about the issue – before agreeing to put him in the stocks at Tamworth Castle.

His Conservative parliamentary colleague Chris Pincher said he hoped Mr Fabricant had learned about the joys of Tamworth.

“I am very glad to see that Michael has been a good sport and has taken his punishment,” he said. “I am sure that he ‘mis-spoke’ in his radio interview.

“Of course what he meant to say is that Tamworth has a rich history as the ancient capital of Mercia – an historic castle and beautiful grounds, a fine old town hall, a wonderful parish church, a vibrant town centre market with period buildings, as well as a fantastic and modern retail park complete with John Lewis store.

“That is why so many people from Lichfield visit Tamworth – including its MP. I think that is what he meant to say – but it just came out wrong.

“Most visitors to Tamworth have nothing to fear, however. We only put exceptional guests in the stocks!”

After another recent gaff on radio WM when he referred to Lichfield as a small town (how long has he been our MP and lived here for) any chance you could keep him locked up and dish out further punishment?

Confusion between the ‘wrecking bill’ topic and this?

Sorry Ross feel free to remove my comment and accept my apologies for questioning your integrity of being anything other than totally impartial.
