Winter weather continuing to take a toll across Lichfield and Burntwood

The winter weather is continuing to cause problems across Lichfield and Burntwood.

Leisure centres and bin collections have been hit by the big freeze, while a number of schools in the area have been closed today.

Rocklands School, Queen’s Croft High School, Saxon Hill and the Bridge Centre School in Lichfield, Greysbrooke Primary School in Shenstone and Chasetown Community School in Burntwood have both confirmed they will remain shut for a second day tomorrow (December 12).

Drivers using Lichfield Trent Valley have also been experiencing problems as the railway bridge leading to the rear car park has iced over, meaning a number of vehicles were unable to get up the hill, with some drivers forced to abandon their cars and walk home.

Sporting fixtures are also falling victim to the cold snap with Chasetown’s game against Stoke City tomorrow already called off, while Lichfield City FC’s trip to Hednesford Town could also be at risk.

Lichfield District Council has also been forced to postpone a planning committee meeting, which will now take place on December 18.

The snow has done some good then.

I find it a little bit disappointing. We’ve just heard that Greysbrooke will be closed again tomorrow. Parents, once again, being forced to scramble around for child care etc.

How is it the school cannot have enough grit to take care of the ‘compacted ice’ which is the reason it is closed again tomorrow?

What if it freezes tonight? Will they close all week?
