More Lichfield and Burntwood schools confirm they will remain shut for a second day on December 12

Three high schools in Lichfield have confirmed they will remain closed today (December 12).

Nether Stowe School and The Friary will stay shut for a second day due to icy conditions.

They are among 11 schools (as of 07.45am) across Lichfield and Burntwood where pupils will stay at home:

  • Chasetown Community School
  • Gentleshaw Primary Academy
  • Greysbrooke Primary School
  • King Edward VI School
  • Little Aston Primary School
  • Nether Stowe School
  • Queen’s Croft High School
  • Rocklands School
  • Saxon Hill
  • St Peter’s CE Primary School (Stonnall)
  • The Bridge Centre School
  • The Friary School

Matt Allman, headteacher at The Friary School, said: “I am very disappointed, but know we cannot have done anymore to get the site secure.

“The size of our site has beaten us and there are issues with the local buses that bring students in from outlying areas.

“All indications are that we will be open tomorrow.”

I do think this is a sensible thing to do.

Arranging care for children can be difficult. But I would rather have that inconvenience, than having to go to hospital as my children have been injured.
